SewCalGal it's time for a new challenge and this month we're having the honor and the pleasure of a tutorial by Ann Fahl: her words are very inspiring!
I has been hooked by a photo in the lesson showing her sketchbook: it was so similar to the doodles I used to draw during lessons at the University! It was a deja-vu, my personal
madeleine!
It was Sunday morning and I was short of batting... but I had to stitch! So I scrape the proverbial bottom of the basket and create a Franken-batting:

Sono stata colpita da una foto nel suo tutorial che mostrava il suo quaderno degli appunti: era così simile agli scarabocchi che disegnavo durante le lezioni all'Università: un salto indietro nel tempo, la mia personale madeleine proustiana!
Era domenica mattina e avevo quasi finito l'imbottitura, ma dovevo iniziare! Così ho "raschiato il fondo del barile", come si dice, e cucito una imbottitura Frankenstein:

I used almost all the kind of thread I have, well, at least all my decorative threads.
E dopo è stato puro divertimento!
Ho usato quasi tutti i miei fili, o perlomeno tutti i miei fili decorativi.
The Metallic Madeira 40 needs a embroidery needle 75/11, tension 2, bobbinfil in the bobbin;
The Rayons, both Madeira and Sulky, can go smoothly on my Horizon with a Universal 70/10, tension auto and a bobbinfil or a Coats Overlock;
Same for the Polyneon, my favourite: easy to stitch, wonderful the almost tridimensional effect of the transition of colors;
I stitched the Monofil Madeira 60 (a monofilament) with a Microtex 60/8, tension 2, same thread in the bobbin;
So far no problems (occasional breakage in rayon and metallic, not a problem with the Polyneon and the monofilament)... but then I tried the Cotona Madeira 30 (100% cotton)... and I experimented continuous breaking of the thread: I changed all I could think of: needle, tension, bobbin thread... At last I managed to reduce the problem with a Topstitch 90/14 needle, tension 2 and Coats Overlock in the bobbin. It is an old threads, bought some years ago, perhaps it is too old and frail? Mah!
Il Metallic Madeira ha bisogno di un ago da ricamo 75/11, tensione a 2 e bobbinfil nella spoletta;
I Rayon, sia il Madeira che il Sulky, vanno lisci sulla mia Horizon con un ago universale 70/10, tensione automatica e in spoletta o del bobbinfil o del Coats Overlock (un filo da tagliaecuci);
Stessa cosa per il Polyneon, che è stato il mio preferito: facile da cucire e meraviglioso l'effetto quasi tridimensionale del passaggio di colori;
Il filo trasparente Monofil Madeira 60 l'ho cucito usando un Microtec 60, tensione abbassata a 2 e lo stesso filo in spoletta;
Fin'ora nessun problema (a parte l'ccasionale rottura del filo con il Rayon e con il Metallic, mentre nessun problema con il trasparente e con il polyneon)... ma poi ho provato il Cotona Madeira 30, un 100% cotone... è si rompeva continuamente: ho cambiato tutto quello che mi veniva in mente: ago, tensione, filo in spolette... Alla fine sono riuscita a ridurre il problema usando un Topstitch 90/14, tensione a 2 e il Coats Overlock in spoletta. È un filo un po' vecchiotto, l'ho comprato qualche anno fa e forse si è rovinato? Mah!
