<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<a name='more'></a>It has been a very difficult year... A year full of changes, the first and most important has been my divorce.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Obviously during this year quilting has stopped, but now I feel I can re-start.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I recently found out about the <a href="http://www.craftsy.com/" target="_blank">Craftsy</a> platform and I love it! The courses are interesting and the pattern shop full of inspiring ideas.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I bought this 2 silhouettes, enlarged them at 200% and added a checkerboard border, so now I have not 2 cute mug rugs, but two cute placemats for my table! </div>

Silviahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11010204669955494550noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1129101335403421849.post-46880275143265429192012-05-26T14:09:00.000+02:002012-05-26T14:09:45.132+02:00FMQ Challenge - MayThis month is Leah Day month!<br />
I really like her job, I have two of her books and a dvd and she is a very talented teacher!<br />
I found out about Leah some years ago, during a web-surfing in a boring afternoon and I was immediately hooked!<br />
I urge you to go to <a href="http://sewcalgal.blogspot.it/p/free-motion-quilt-challenge.html" target="_blank">SewCalGal</a> and give a try to this beautiful challenge (and a possibility to win beautiful prizes, too) and to go to <a href="http://www.freemotionquilting.blogspot.it/" target="_blank">Leah Day</a> to discover Free Motion Quilting her way!<br />
This month challenge was to try a couple of foundational designs: Double Stippling and Railroad Tracks.<br />
Here the beginning of Double Stippling:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTEwfkA6UE_200N_mxaenegBL2OURzO4m1Fh05poB2sSOG_2-AsMW3mRgWPWnBTBqkL6N0tN3gFk4HAzymCdu_pBl2-IsYWM2dXwRiaFXKd5elssV8rEaU2cfj7wzquBOzzk2-IRljfQ/s1600/Prima_parte.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" qba="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTEwfkA6UE_200N_mxaenegBL2OURzO4m1Fh05poB2sSOG_2-AsMW3mRgWPWnBTBqkL6N0tN3gFk4HAzymCdu_pBl2-IsYWM2dXwRiaFXKd5elssV8rEaU2cfj7wzquBOzzk2-IRljfQ/s320/Prima_parte.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
And the second part:<br />
<em>E la seconda parte:</em><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWdetUkQ8EcDCd7XyJatWpqmCRtoV1v8ujsQCSqncbTl6bEzwu0US37lD6tCHvXH23hEwcb0XehKh43Q701TgJyabNgqq5LSihrb72AWjH6I5wBidn1XuaoYs4UQsVLk4AItDpsgsegw/s1600/seconda_parte.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" qba="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWdetUkQ8EcDCd7XyJatWpqmCRtoV1v8ujsQCSqncbTl6bEzwu0US37lD6tCHvXH23hEwcb0XehKh43Q701TgJyabNgqq5LSihrb72AWjH6I5wBidn1XuaoYs4UQsVLk4AItDpsgsegw/s320/seconda_parte.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Some problem... occasional points instead of smooth and gracious curves:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjBRHr6dQbPTDj1UBX1GGpJ5PZ_Sbz-G3au01onsJxFjM-G25sCw0GTIqZvF6ZOHgis2pZ-IXsBnYb46enjcVGcgZ00xCm38O6bcSkmSTgRWmq88AdHIJJD3dlleKm5o5FLHYLNIEwVg/s1600/particolare_front.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="236" qba="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjBRHr6dQbPTDj1UBX1GGpJ5PZ_Sbz-G3au01onsJxFjM-G25sCw0GTIqZvF6ZOHgis2pZ-IXsBnYb46enjcVGcgZ00xCm38O6bcSkmSTgRWmq88AdHIJJD3dlleKm5o5FLHYLNIEwVg/s320/particolare_front.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
...but all in all I'm satisfied!<br />
<em>Ma tutto sommato sono soddisfatta!</em><br />
<br />
Oh, and don't forget Railroad Tracks!<br />
First wobbly line (not so much of a line, to tell the truth...)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPtchNEp1xLqgefs7qFW016f7vhUKuwy9e8AL-vmmd2-xpOAruGvHCOBR3cBccgtWGfCZcw6kRSPLJWtEIqRNfC9Y-doLrfNzCTXN0vLuAp3dY9I8W3s7QYE7FW7DjU2l1GxCum-MHow/s1600/inizio.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" qba="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPtchNEp1xLqgefs7qFW016f7vhUKuwy9e8AL-vmmd2-xpOAruGvHCOBR3cBccgtWGfCZcw6kRSPLJWtEIqRNfC9Y-doLrfNzCTXN0vLuAp3dY9I8W3s7QYE7FW7DjU2l1GxCum-MHow/s320/inizio.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
And my tracks:<br />

It is the last day of April, just in time for the FMQ Challenge. This month is a Mr April!<br />
<a href="http://www.mrquilt.com/" target="_blank">Don Linn</a> has been our teacher for this month, sharing his way to create and trace quilting patterns on quilts.<br />
This method involves quite a lot of work before the actual quilting and I have to say that I found out it is not my method of choice, at this point of my fmq-journey, but it is nice have more arrows for our bow, thank you very much, Don!<br />
You can see at <a href="http://sewcalgal.blogspot.it/2012/04/april-2012-fmq-challenge-tutorial-by.html" target="_blank">SewCalGal </a>a lot of people who try this method, and some patterns are really beautiful!<br />
Finally, I <a href="http://mywinterstar.blogspot.it/2010/09/facendo-e-disfacendo.html" target="_blank">rip out all the quilting in my second sampler</a> and decided to use this sampler to try my hand with the FMQ.<br />
<br />
<br />
So here my April FMQ Challenge. The design, traced on mesh and streched on a loop:<br />

I has been hooked by a photo in the lesson showing her sketchbook: it was so similar to the doodles I used to draw during lessons at the University! It was a deja-vu, my personal <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Madeleine_(cake)" target="_blank">madeleine</a>!<br />
It was Sunday morning and I was short of batting... but I had to stitch! So I scrape the proverbial bottom of the basket and create a Franken-batting:<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg507tBnzhGYwrj5Ntw2bvERoF-mMnn_OBQr60BXjXq_CqzwozXJBB3Agndi_q__a32w4Hz0xAhKN6WbuWGXVkWrFo7e7RJpT24ulgM-98FJXj1kX0jjaWfYS-5pt1Qdnfw9tBSOIv9sg/s1600/FrankenBatting.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="121" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg507tBnzhGYwrj5Ntw2bvERoF-mMnn_OBQr60BXjXq_CqzwozXJBB3Agndi_q__a32w4Hz0xAhKN6WbuWGXVkWrFo7e7RJpT24ulgM-98FJXj1kX0jjaWfYS-5pt1Qdnfw9tBSOIv9sg/s320/FrankenBatting.jpg" width="320" yda="true" /></a></div><br />
Alas, I have no more my notebooks, but I have the picture in Ann tutorial! So I draw my copy of her doodle and marked it on a black sandwich:<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGKyWnvSfXCZauU9rPKsj2zl72OKoItt0k0cIGknmWcsVntT4zYcRSFJHhbkLtMuTyxvl4BgXQZAddS6FYuwrNtb13d8TBDZtYjZBU2VkHOVZD3yJVEslaO72bLIxyf9OuyvUUrKCmuQ/s1600/inspiration.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGKyWnvSfXCZauU9rPKsj2zl72OKoItt0k0cIGknmWcsVntT4zYcRSFJHhbkLtMuTyxvl4BgXQZAddS6FYuwrNtb13d8TBDZtYjZBU2VkHOVZD3yJVEslaO72bLIxyf9OuyvUUrKCmuQ/s320/inspiration.jpg" width="240" yda="true" /></a></div>And after that it was just plain fun!!!<br />
I used almost all the kind of thread I have, well, at least all my decorative threads.<br />
<br />
<em>E dopo è stato puro divertimento!</em><br />
<em>Ho usato quasi tutti i miei fili, o perlomeno tutti i miei fili decorativi.</em><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhiaSkocVN1FCePl7M7VFXkkY9grKN0wYWxIB0a-wpy7iXsDy-U6IWrh-vTfXbEqKgDjUQT8FhYJmFAZL_J8DNzCwxz9qOlx1jktctXDuntVI2fIQj7qgZYUs5M452Q3eYjZaOnepmBAA/s1600/finished.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhiaSkocVN1FCePl7M7VFXkkY9grKN0wYWxIB0a-wpy7iXsDy-U6IWrh-vTfXbEqKgDjUQT8FhYJmFAZL_J8DNzCwxz9qOlx1jktctXDuntVI2fIQj7qgZYUs5M452Q3eYjZaOnepmBAA/s320/finished.jpg" width="282" yda="true" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div>The Metallic Madeira 40 needs a embroidery needle 75/11, tension 2, bobbinfil in the bobbin;<br />
The Rayons, both Madeira and Sulky, can go smoothly on my Horizon with a Universal 70/10, tension auto and a bobbinfil or a Coats Overlock;<br />
Same for the Polyneon, my favourite: easy to stitch, wonderful the almost tridimensional effect of the transition of colors;<br />
I stitched the Monofil Madeira 60 (a monofilament) with a Microtex 60/8, tension 2, same thread in the bobbin;<br />
So far no problems (occasional breakage in rayon and metallic, not a problem with the Polyneon and the monofilament)... but then I tried the Cotona Madeira 30 (100% cotton)... and I experimented continuous breaking of the thread: I changed all I could think of: needle, tension, bobbin thread... At last I managed to reduce the problem with a Topstitch 90/14 needle, tension 2 and Coats Overlock in the bobbin. It is an old threads, bought some years ago, perhaps it is too old and frail? Mah!<br />
<br />
Mah!</em>Silviahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11010204669955494550noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1129101335403421849.post-17162681480832233962012-03-06T06:37:00.003+01:002012-03-06T07:05:11.083+01:00Design Wall Monday... on Tuesday!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="236" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDudzufGEeiQkvgH8HZXmTyNm_jwizmFyKgRZel2h8qqvWoS3ExDQpDasxUMBnJM6r6BMvfWM4sNlvPCIAkSmKxa7p303ZbLrooFhc-htVo9w-jYMOho6ZZOod65zmx9-eJ-CRHJYxTw/s320/DW_05-03-12.jpg" uda="true" width="320" /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

With this project I killed two birds with a stone: the Color Palette Challenge of February (<a href="http://www.patchworktimes.com/2012/03/01/march-color-palette/" target="_blank">here</a> the beautiful works of talented quilters all around the world AND the color choices for March) and a project from volume one of Quilter's Academy... I love the books of Harriet Hargrave, have I already said she's my "Quilter's of the Year 2012"? She's a very talented writer, her words are very inspiring!<br />
So here there's my work for the Color Palette Challenge of February:<br />
<br />

Ah, and two more Farmer's Wife blocks, you can see them top left in the pic.<br />
If truth must be told, the last one is bigger than 6", I somewhat managed to mess up with the measurement... oh, that's so me :)<br />

I've got a flu, is it possible?! Two in a month!! How annoying!<br />
So I'm late with a lot of things, but perhaps this week-end I will be able to spare some time for my beloved sewing machine... In the meantime Salem, our cat, keeps warm my chair :)<br />

Ho preso l'influenza, sarà mai possibile?! Due in un mese!! Che noia!<br />
Così sono rimasta indietro con un sacco di cose, ma forse questo fine settimana riuscirò a recuperare un po' di tempo per lavorare a qualche progetto... nel frattempo Salem, la nostra gatta, mi tiene calda la sedia :)Silviahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11010204669955494550noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1129101335403421849.post-79078178987799231012012-02-06T18:40:00.000+01:002012-02-06T18:40:56.137+01:00Design WallSome Mondays my design wall is, well, just plain dull: no new projects and no old projects, too... but not today, today is quite a mess, see for yourself:<br />

Harriet is my new "quilter-of-the-year"... last year has been Leah Day year.
<em>Il risultato è... come dire... orripilante. È davvero ora che pratichi un po' di trapunto a "eco" seriamente!!!</em>Silviahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11010204669955494550noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1129101335403421849.post-36719043824072466672012-02-04T12:03:00.005+01:002012-02-04T12:03:00.633+01:00Color Palette Challenge 2012Here's the palette <a href="http://vickiwelsh.typepad.com/field_trips_in_fiber/" target="_blank">Vicky</a> chooses for this month:<br />

<br />
<br />
Here I am, coming back from Cervia and the Quilting WeekEnd of Quiltitalia (our national guild). We all had some difficult moments and some wonderful ones. I found old and new friends... Now we have a new President and a new board. It is too soon to know where we will go, but the very important thing is that we can fight and bicker, but at last, we all love patchwork and this unify us.Silviahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11010204669955494550noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1129101335403421849.post-88806160007831854452012-01-18T18:31:00.007+01:002012-01-18T18:31:00.455+01:00Color Palette Challenge - Done!Here we are, with the Color Palette Challenge of January:<br />

I think I has not been very "daring" with this one, but I was afraid I didn't have enough time this month to do all my duties. I have a retreat, starting tomorrow (I can't wait!!!), and usually I come home with my head full of projects and new techniques I want to try and never-ever enough time to do it!!! So I thought it was better starting with a little project, but actually made it! :)Silviahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11010204669955494550noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1129101335403421849.post-56267412272093593802012-01-14T18:15:00.000+01:002012-01-14T18:15:00.447+01:002012 Free Motion Quilting Challenge - JanuaryHello everybody!<br />
This year I am really really serious in trying to improve my FMQ-skills!<br />
I signed up both for The Wednesday Quilt-Along with Leah Day and this FMQ Challenge, hosted at SewCalGal. To me 2012 will be the FMQ-year!<br />
I completed the January tutorial, doing something very small, just a quick sampler with the threads I use in my quilts:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2z97TVnF0IZlnvfWzl8CQiNsMpggzJ7E-WF2SjRqF9NYxWwTCFSgRIOVSGTL2HCJ02t_EeC3f2AJa_RH1zOGqHSI53SUvMEDQuYuHfUaQF-ygu8qeiXPWvZOBT0dqoKyUq7pUJ-NE4w/s1600/FMQChallenge-Jan+2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" kba="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2z97TVnF0IZlnvfWzl8CQiNsMpggzJ7E-WF2SjRqF9NYxWwTCFSgRIOVSGTL2HCJ02t_EeC3f2AJa_RH1zOGqHSI53SUvMEDQuYuHfUaQF-ygu8qeiXPWvZOBT0dqoKyUq7pUJ-NE4w/s320/FMQChallenge-Jan+2.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div>So the red thread is Rayon 40 Madeira, the multicolor one is Cotona 30 Madeira, the white on your left is polyneon Madeira, the last one (it seems white, but it is really a very light green) is Gutermann polyester.<br />
Bobbinfil in the bobbin and a Universal 70/10 needle.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiN4D5OeenUf3GDslhmAGCdykBIWT8p7FUt7uo-ed9UkipMXQJcP90eV2uzRVLjO8UieiGxgzYta86rT3Be-7FxcS8u_ylzTVo6YdjLBql0ZYMYsarC5HF4HYXA06kwQwZomXVg5KL3qA/s1600/FMQChallenge-Jan+3.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" kba="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiN4D5OeenUf3GDslhmAGCdykBIWT8p7FUt7uo-ed9UkipMXQJcP90eV2uzRVLjO8UieiGxgzYta86rT3Be-7FxcS8u_ylzTVo6YdjLBql0ZYMYsarC5HF4HYXA06kwQwZomXVg5KL3qA/s320/FMQChallenge-Jan+3.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
Rayon and Polyneon both stitches beautifully: no need to adjust tension.<br />
Polyester seems "stiff" and rigid and does not curve smoothly.<br />
Cotona was a nightmare, but it was my fault: I decided to try with the same needle, bobbin and tension and this has been a mistake: Cotona needed definitely a different needle and some trial-and-error in the tension department!<br />

It seems I managed to did all my homework, so far, this month!<br />
I'm busy tearing away the quilting in my Second Course Sampler (that's my <a href="http://www.patchworktimes.com/2012-ufo-challenge/" target="_blank">UFO Challenge</a> number 5), I'm a good point with my <a href="http://www.patchworktimes.com/tag/2012-color-challenge/" target="_blank">Color Palette Challenge</a> of January and I did the exercises for the <a href="http://freemotionquilting.blogspot.com/2012/01/quilt-along-1-lets-wiggle.html" target="_blank">first Wednesday of this Quilt-A-Long</a>, hosted by Leah Day. Next will be the <a href="http://sewcalgal.blogspot.com/p/free-motion-quilt-challenge.html" target="_blank">2012 Free Motion Quilting Challenge</a>, but I definitely think I can manage (so far...)<br />
So here's my production... ok, not so much of it, but it is a start!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOdh5d7N2Zq_t7CRKvJOMKoV8xRdXw4SuUJAEl3GnI1-YPn6WbuTIfN1JOYT950NzWsgd98dw-jUv65NDjXeLM3WXnjMAX8PHhyptt9sWY6kFBZEFERpI266msZfnNJ1UKpN6tcaPqlQ/s1600/FMQ-1week_1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" rea="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOdh5d7N2Zq_t7CRKvJOMKoV8xRdXw4SuUJAEl3GnI1-YPn6WbuTIfN1JOYT950NzWsgd98dw-jUv65NDjXeLM3WXnjMAX8PHhyptt9sWY6kFBZEFERpI266msZfnNJ1UKpN6tcaPqlQ/s320/FMQ-1week_1.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div> Here is a close-up, I'm very proud of me: I used to think that stippling was not my piece of cake, because I'm a sort of "control-freak" somewhat and this smooth transition of forms that freeely blend together was too anarchy for my tastes... well, I think things are changing!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdErnJaj6R9Asy4DQvc6VH83PEf3QWiIclTCxA0QkMEVPDMUttjMWwEBrUfAO5mFAHs8ztPuUCw7dMzP_vARwxmhv1PpATD1mwj6j4K9gFRyCqwOes0mbqNSvF_nRF4_orD0rcySbR1Q/s1600/FMQ-1week_2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" rea="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdErnJaj6R9Asy4DQvc6VH83PEf3QWiIclTCxA0QkMEVPDMUttjMWwEBrUfAO5mFAHs8ztPuUCw7dMzP_vARwxmhv1PpATD1mwj6j4K9gFRyCqwOes0mbqNSvF_nRF4_orD0rcySbR1Q/s320/FMQ-1week_2.jpg" width="320" /> </a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
